The Dog Retreat & Spa Reviews

Our 11-year-old Havanese, Lulu, has been a weekly visitor to the Dog Retreat Physical Rehabilitation Center since January of 2024. We were referred by a veterinary orthopedic surgeon who felt that PT was worth trying before we resorted to surgery. We are so grateful that he was not only right, but that Amy, Kate and their crew gave Lulu her life back. While she might not be quite able to keep up with her 4-year-old “sister,” Lolli, she can now certainly chase and tumble around with her like a puppy. We continue our weekly appointments both to maintain all the progress she’s made and because Lulu really loves them. Honestly, I can not recommend the Center highly enough.

Everyone on the rehab team is so kind and so caring, our old girl doesn’t like many people but she absolutely LOVES them! She knows they’re there to help and really looks forward to her sessions. They’ve been a crucial part in improving her mobility and building strength to maintain a good quality of life! We’re grateful for the incredibly detailed and well tailored care she’s received over the last few years and are looking forward to many more together!!

We have used the Dog Retreat & Spa for several years, both for day care and for grooming. Ed and Jalene and their staff are wonderful with our three dogs and have been very helpful to us as well, with training tips, equipment loans, etc. We live a mile away, but they are conveniently located on 128 for all you commuters. You won’t regret taking your dogs to this fabulous place. Our dogs are all happy AND stylish.

So glad I found this place. I have a Samoyed that was in need of some serious grooming. I took him to two other places and both could not handle him which I understood since he is not a fan of the brush but I was not ready to allow him to be shaven quite yet. After searching around some more I found The Dog Retreat and Spa and decided to request an appointment online. I provided a quick description of our situation on their appointment request form (which probably came across as a desperate cry for help) and Jalene called me back immediately to tell me that they were more than willing to help and set me up with an appointment right away. Once there I was immediately impressed by the size of the facility, the cleanliness, and the professionalism of all the staff. I dropped my dog off with Jennifer who gave me a clear and straight forward description of everything she was going to do and informed me that I would get a text half hour before he was ready. Based on my last two experiences with groomers I was expecting that text to come an hour later along with a request to bring him back another time to finish. However that text would not come till way later. Jennifer was able to completely transform him! Jennifer succeeded where other had failed and seemed to have had no problems with getting him through his grooming. She even notified me of some concerning rashes on his stomach that are from a skin infection he developed and even though he was already being treated for it by our vet it is good to know they keep an eye out and inform people about stuff like this. I was amazed and could not be more impressed with how good she is at what she does and how professional this place is. My dog will be coming back every month and I would highly recommend this place to everybody.

I recently took my little Rocky to a local groomer, and unfortunately, it was the worst grooming experience I’ve ever had. I was so upset that I immediately went online to look for help. That’s when Alyss reached out and mentioned that Kathy had an opening early the next morning and could work with Rocky to fix the mess. ( 1st pic)

Taking that chance with Kathy turned out to be the *best* decision I could’ve made. She did an amazing job correcting what the previous groomer had done. Rocky came out looking great, and Alyss even mentioned he was a joy to work with. (2nd pic)

I highly recommend any for any grooming services you need. They’re kind, professional, and truly care about your pet’s well-being!

The Dog Retreat and Spa is excellent. Clean, well run and the staff are super nice. They really care about our pet and he loves staying there! I highly recommend them!

I live alone in Boston and I have a job that requires a lot of travel. I wouldn’t be able to do my job without this team. Jalene has become my family and I know that no matter what I have going on, the Dog Retreat and Spa has my back ????????. My senior dog loves them and I will continue to send her there until she crosses the rainbow bridge. It is worth the drive to Waltham ????

We LOVE this daycare. The staff is friendly, educated and prompt. They definitely have your pups best interests at heart. We have also boarded our dog here and she loves it! They include report cards at the end of every visit and offer a lot of extras. We really appreciated FaceTime when we were on vacation, but our pup was so content and living her best life she barely even missed us! Thank you Dog Retreat and Spa for being the best!

Our maltipoo, Zeus, has been staying with The Dog Retreat and Spa, for 4 years now for usually 3 to 4 times per year. My husband and I can enjoy our vacations knowing Zeus is well cared for. The Dog Retreat sends photos of our pup daily so we can see him playing and relaxing. The premises are clean, well-lit, provided with a sprinkler system, hard wired smoke detectors and an alarm system. Staff follow our feeding instructions, pay close attention to the pets' needs and sleep overnight to make sure there is continuous oversight of the facility. We had our pup groomed there and the groomer did an excellent job!

Wonderful experience during my puppy’s first evaluation. The owner opened the door with a huge smile & said they were all waiting to meet Winnie. I first met with Alyss at the front desk. She helped answer all of my questions & she made Winnie and I feel very comfortable. And, the owner graciously walked me around her gorgeous facility. She showed me every part, which was very expansive, clean and well maintained with updated modern appliances. She also took the time to describe the care & different types of treatment they offer dogs including: grooming, day care, boarding, physical therapy/acupuncture & much more! I was highly impressed. Everyone working there seemed very happy & the dogs were all joyfully playing. During my visit I was able to figure out the best plan for Winnie. I look forward to Winnie’s first play group experience. Thank you.

This is my second dog at the Dog Retreat. He is 3 1/2 months old, and a very active pup. Jalene took the time to sit with me while Teddy was being evaluated, and talked me out of my frenetic state from having a new pup. She is extremely knowledgeable, as are the people who take care of the pups. They are very concerned with your pet’s safety and comfort. They are the best!

The Dog Retreat And Spa is my dog Sophie‘s second favorite place in the world. I love the owner, Jalene and the staff that she puts together is second to none. These caring people really love my dog and care about her the way I do. From daycare, to their rehab facilities to their knowledge of animal behaviors. I cannot recommend this place enough. Can’t say enough about the Dog Retreat and Spa! My dog has been going there for 2 years now and the staff treats her like an angel! The owners are so thoughtful about how they run their business and it makes me feel very relieved and safe to leave my dog there 3 days a week when I have to go into work! They’re the best!

We are so, so lucky to be able to send our puppy to daycare at The Dog Retreat. Jalene and her team are remarkable—they are so caring and are incredibly wise about dog behavior. (And humans as well!)

My puppy has been going to The Dog Retreat since she was 4 months old, and her experiences there have been an incredibly positive influence on her socialization and her open, happy, secure attitude towards other dogs and people.

When we arrive at The Dog Retreat in the morning, she runs to the staff there, wiggling with delight. The Dog Retreat has helped to ensure that she is growing into a happy, friendly, confident dog—-and I know that she is always safe and in the best care possible when she is there.
